There is not a shortage of news stories covering failed hedge fund investments and it is a fact that hedge funds’ picks don’t beat the market 100% of the time, but their consensus picks have historically done very well and have outperformed the market after adjusting for risk.

VZ has experienced a decrease in hedge fund sentiment in recent months. There were 63 hedge funds in the database with VZ positions at the end of the second quarter. Calculations also showed that VZ isn’t among the 30 most popular stocks among hedge funds, for Q3. But why then are there less this year over year?
By comparison, 65 hedge funds held shares or bullish call options in VZ a year ago.
