Sunday afternoon was the usual up and down volatility in the crypto world with a twist. The twist? Scammers and hackers gained access to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Modi’s Twitter account. As the leader of the second-largest country in the world with an upcoming vote on the legality of crypto, this is news.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account had over 73.4 million followers at the time it got hacked. The scammers and attackers shared misleading information about the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and a 500 BTC giveaway at a time when the leader is set to vote soon on Crypto legislation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle was “very briefly compromised” after it shared a post on bitcoin, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Sunday.
In a tweet, PMO said the Twitter account of PM Modi was secured later and any tweet shared during the period must be ignored. “The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored,” PMO India tweeted.
